The Best Man Speech is probably going to be the most memorable of all the Wedding toasts so it can be quite nerve wracking trying to get this right without offending anyone.

In order to prepare for the speech we have created a 4 step plan to help.

The Best Man's Speech In 4 Steps

1. Practice and Write Notes

Practice makes perfect so you will need to ensure the whole speech has been rehearsed several times beforehand, test it out loud on family and friends to ensure you are getting it right.

You may wish to write the whole speech down and try to memorise it or use cards to prompt you, maybe you are a good skilled orator and you will be quite happy with just a few words to prepare you as you can think on your feet.

Remember that you will be standing in front of a large number of people, some you have never met and all these people are important to the Wedding couple and they will be relying on you to entertain their guests for this short time.

2. Timing

Ensure you know the amount of time you have been allocated for your speech and how long it will take, if you have researched the whole speech you should be able to work out the length of time it will take you.

Build in some extra time that you might need should anything go wrong I you are using a microphone that stops working for example or have to answer a few hecklers in the crowd!

3. Delivery

It is vital to get your delivery right, talking in a low voice might make those who cannot hear at the back bored and they could get distracted and talking in the wrong voice pitch would thwart your best intentions.

Think about how far your voice needs to be projected so everyone can hear you clearly and concisely, use a microphone if you need a bit of amplification and test this works beforehand to avoid any issues on the day.

Consider your posture, your manner and the way that you are standing, try not to be standing hunched over and stand tall and confident if you have practiced it will really help your nerves and you will have every reason to feel in control of your delivery.

Try to avoid drinking too much before your moment, it may be relaxing to have a quick drink to calm your nerves but you don’t want to be struggling to talk if you’ve had too much to drink!

4. Content

Your Speech is part of a toast and traditionally should include the following parts;

• A Toast on behalf of the Bridesmaids

• Speech

• Announcing the cutting of the Wedding Cake

You will want to use your speech to say thank you to all the guests for joining the Wedding Couple on their happy day, you should also thank any absent friends who may have sent along messages as they couldn’t make the occasion and there may be family or friends who have passed away that get a special mention.

Do not forget to say Congratulations to the Wedding Couple it might sound straight forward but it could be easily missed!

Use your speech to give out presents to the Bridal Party if there are any, this could include flower bouquets for the Mother of the Bride and the Groom or presents for the bridesmaids and ushers.

Be different and use technology to help make your speech more interesting and special, use a laptop and a projector to display photos whist you are talking there are bound to be some interesting moments captured on camera to share with the guests.

Keep your content fresh and entertaining with funny recollections and amusing stories, talking about any exes is a huge no no as that may cause huge embarrassment to the couple.

Try to avoid using swear words or stories that may cause offence to anyone and remember to keep things child friendly particularly if there are lots of youngsters around.

At The Hungry Plaice we have recently introduced a new addition to our fleet Bessie a modern van specifically for certain corporate events which call for a modern van. This contemporary vehicle is equipped with a modern range fryer and will be able to cover long distances effortlessly, allowing us to continue to cater for clients even in far-flung locations! The decision to invest in this high-tech van was driven by the desire to preserve our beloved vintage vans, Betty and Beryl who aged 40 and 38 respectively need to do less travelling in order to keep them on the road for as long as we can. Betty and Beryl have been serving up delicious fish and chips for years, becoming icons of The Hungry Plaice's brand. They hold sentimental value that goes beyond their functionality as food trucks and customers had developed an emotional connection with these charming old-fashioned vehicles. Recognising this sentiment, we have decided it was time to protect Betty and Beryl from excessive wear and tear. By introducing the modern van for corporate events, The Hungry Plaice ensures that Betty and Beryl can get some well-deserved rest while still meeting the demands of commercial catering. The advanced features of the new van enhance efficiency making it easier for the business to accommodate large gatherings and operate in distant venues without straining their classic counterparts. Moreover, the modern van allows The Hungry Plaice to expand its reach into previously untapped markets. With its reliability over long distances, the company can now offer its renowned fish and chips experience at various events across different regions, attracting new customers who may have previously been out of range. Despite taking advantage of cutting-edge technology using this new vehicle, The Hungry Plaice remains committed to maintaining its traditional appeal. Betty and Beryl will continue delighting customers at weddings, private and some corporate events keeping alive the nostalgic charm that has become synonymous with The Hungry Plaice experience. The decision to incorporate a modern van alongside Betty and Beryl represents a balanced approach between preserving tradition and embracing innovation. As we embark on this exciting chapter of expansion The Hungry Plaice remains dedicated to delivering excellence in our services.
