Hard to believe but there is actually a formula for the Perfect Chip Butty....


The Chip Butty Perfected In A Scientific Formula

The Chip Butty...


To anyone anywhere that has not tried this British delicacy we urge you to try this, it is a basic staple in some British homes consisting of different ingredients and called different things depending on where in the country you live.


The Chip Butty is just a chip sandwich I hear you cry what is the fuss all about?


Well according to a recent article in the Daily Mail Dr James Hind who works at Nottingham Trent University as a Statistician has developed the formula for the perfect Chip Butty which is based upon a survey by the supermarket brand Iceland.


And here is the magic formula;


C ≥ 3b/4 + k + 3m


Um so what does that all mean exactly?


As per the article this is "......where C is the weight of chips(g), b is the weight of the bread(g), k is the amount of ketchup (ml) and m is the mass of butter (g)".


In short the perfect Chip Butty should consist of "12 thick cut chips, two 40g slices of medium sliced white bread, ketchup and butter – not mayo or margarine".


Sounds straightforward enough to follow and there are some more factors for example the bread needs to be soft and the chips need to be crunchy.

HOW TO CREATE THE PERFECT CHIP BUTTY 


The scientist's step-by-step guide to creating the perfect butty is: 


1. Cook thick cut oven chips at 392°F (200°C) for 22 minutes


2. Thinly butter two slices of medium sliced white bread


3. While the chips are freshly cooked, place at least 12 on one slice of buttered bread so that their weight is three quarters that of the bread plus ketchup


4. Squeeze as much ketchup as you like but add more chips to compensate so it doesn't get too cold


5. Place the second slice of bread on top of the still steaming hot chips


6. Allow to cool for at least 30 seconds before enjoying. If it is too hot to hold, it is too hot to eat.

At The Hungry Plaice we have recently introduced a new addition to our fleet Bessie a modern van specifically for certain corporate events which call for a modern van. This contemporary vehicle is equipped with a modern range fryer and will be able to cover long distances effortlessly, allowing us to continue to cater for clients even in far-flung locations! The decision to invest in this high-tech van was driven by the desire to preserve our beloved vintage vans, Betty and Beryl who aged 40 and 38 respectively need to do less travelling in order to keep them on the road for as long as we can. Betty and Beryl have been serving up delicious fish and chips for years, becoming icons of The Hungry Plaice's brand. They hold sentimental value that goes beyond their functionality as food trucks and customers had developed an emotional connection with these charming old-fashioned vehicles. Recognising this sentiment, we have decided it was time to protect Betty and Beryl from excessive wear and tear. By introducing the modern van for corporate events, The Hungry Plaice ensures that Betty and Beryl can get some well-deserved rest while still meeting the demands of commercial catering. The advanced features of the new van enhance efficiency making it easier for the business to accommodate large gatherings and operate in distant venues without straining their classic counterparts. Moreover, the modern van allows The Hungry Plaice to expand its reach into previously untapped markets.
